You’ve made the decision to invest in a personal trainer. Congratulations! Hiring a professional to help you reach your fitness goals is a smart move. But what can you do to make sure you get the most out of your personal training sessions? Here are 5 tips:
1. Set realistic expectations.
The first step is to be realistic about what you can achieve in a set amount of time. If you’re hoping to lose 50 pounds in 2 months, your trainer will likely set you up for disappointment. Not only is that an unrealistic goal, but it’s also not healthy or sustainable. Work with your trainer to come up with a plan that’s based on your unique circumstances and fitness level.
2. Come prepared.
In order to make the most of each session, it’s important to come prepared. This means showing up on time and having any necessary equipment with you. It also means being mentally and emotionally ready to work hard and push yourself outside of your comfort zone. If you’re dragging or not fully invested, your trainer won’t be able to help you reach your potential.
3. Be honest.
If you’re not honest with your trainer about things like injuries, limitations, or dislikes, it’ll be difficult for them to tailor the workouts to your needs. Likewise, if you don’t tell them about your successes or improvements, they won’t know what’s working and what isn’t. The key to seeing results is open and honest communication with your trainer.
4. Follow their lead.
Your trainer is the expert, so be sure to follow their lead during the session. If they ask you to do something that’s outside of your comfort zone, trust that they know what they’re doing and give it a try. The whole point of hiring a trainer is to push yourself beyond what you would do on your own, so embrace their guidance and expertise.
5. Take it one day at a time.
Fitness goals rarely happen overnight, so don’t expect miracles from your personal training sessions! Instead of looking at the big picture and getting overwhelmed, focus on taking it one day—and one workout—at a time. Trust that each session is helping you inch closer and closer toward your goal, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the moment.
Personal trainers can be expensive, so it’s important to make the most of each session! By setting realistic expectations, coming prepared, being honest, following your trainer’s lead, and taking it one day at a time, you can maximize each session and see amazing results over time!
